Daikin vs LG Aircon Comparison

Daikin and LG both sell air conditioners in Singapore. The better choice depends on the exact indoor and outdoor units, your room layout, the installation and the support included in the quotation. Brand names alone do not establish lower running costs, quieter operation or a longer lifespan.

This guide helps you compare quotations using current manufacturer information and Singapore’s Energy Label. It is not a laboratory test or a reliability ranking.

What the manufacturers currently offer

Daikin’s Singapore iSmile Eco+ information describes app control, a built-in wireless adapter and model-specific comfort features. LG’s Singapore S3-Q18K21PA page lists a single-split inverter model with ThinQ and R32. These examples are not equivalent systems: one product page cannot establish a winner across either brand’s range.

Ask each supplier to identify the exact system they are quoting and provide the current specification sheet. Confirm which advertised functions are included on that model and which require an accessory or setup.

Six things to compare on the same basis

1. Energy use

Read the NEA Energy Label for each quoted system. Compare the tick rating and annual electricity consumption alongside cooling capacity. A multi-split label identifies the outdoor unit, so retain that model number in your comparison.

The label’s annual consumption uses standard assumptions, including eight hours of daily aircon use where applicable. Actual bills depend on use, room conditions and the electricity rate. A percentage saving in an advertisement needs its stated comparator and test conditions; it is not automatically your household saving.

2. Capacity and room layout

Ask the installer to explain the capacity proposed for each room and what happens when several indoor units run together. Note room size, afternoon sun, ceiling height and how the space is used. The number of connected units alone does not tell you the output available to each room.

3. Noise

Compare published sound levels for the proposed indoor units at the same fan setting and operating conditions. A minimum quiet-mode figure is not a general noise rating for the whole system. Ask how airflow and cooling output change in quiet mode.

4. Controls

Check remote and app functions on the exact model: scheduling, group control, Wi-Fi requirements, energy displays and compatible voice assistants. Both brands offer connected products; there is no basis here for saying one brand always has better smart controls.

5. Installation

Request an itemised description of pipework, insulation, drainage, electrical work and access arrangements. Ask what can be reused, how it will be checked and which finishing works are included. Compare the installation scope before treating a lower total as a better price.

6. Warranty and service

Read the applicable manufacturer terms, including LG Singapore’s warranty information, and the installer’s own workmanship coverage. Separate compressor, parts, labour, call-out and installation coverage. A long compressor warranty is not the same as full-system coverage for that period.

Ask how service is booked, what maintenance is required, which exclusions apply and who handles a fault after installation. Obtain those answers in writing.

Match the system to the way you use the home

For a bedroom used mainly at night, compare quiet-mode output, controls and energy use for the proposed capacity. For several rooms used together, ask how the outdoor unit supplies the combined load. For an office, include operating hours, occupancy and access for maintenance in the brief.

These are planning examples, not reported customer cases or evidence that a particular brand performs better.

A quotation checklist to send both suppliers

Ask for these details in the same order so omissions are easy to spot:

  • Indoor and outdoor model numbers, quantity and cooling capacity.
  • NEA tick rating and annual consumption for the quoted system.
  • Sound levels and the operating mode used for the figures.
  • Included controls, adapters and setup.
  • Itemised installation work, materials and exclusions.
  • Total price, applicable GST, warranty coverage and service process.

Common questions

Which brand is more energy-efficient?

Compare the Energy Labels and specifications of equivalent systems. This article has no controlled evidence supporting a brand-wide winner.

Which is quieter or more durable?

Use model-specific sound data for noise. We do not have comparable long-term failure data to rank durability, and the previous general claims have been removed.

Does app control come as standard?

Confirm it on the exact model. Check accessories, network requirements and the available functions before buying.

Does a self-cleaning feature replace servicing?

Follow the model’s maintenance instructions. Ask which tasks the function performs and which still require filter care or a technician. For routine care, read our aircon troubleshooting guide; refrigerant or electrical work should be assessed by an appropriate professional.

How to choose

Choose the quoted system that meets your room needs with a clear installation plan, acceptable running costs and documented support. If an essential comparison is missing, request it before accepting the quotation.
