Spring Cleaning in Singapore: Agree the Room-by-Room Scope
5 min read
A useful spring-cleaning enquiry starts with a room list: the surfaces you want attended to, their condition, and what can be reached safely. Before comparing quotations in Singapore, turn “clean everything” into a set of priorities the provider can assess.
This room-by-room guide helps you prepare that request and review the proposed scope. It also gives a practical starting point if you plan to do some of the work yourself.

Make one room list before comparing quotations
Walk through your home and note the rooms, surfaces and interiors that matter most. Add the material where you know it, visible marks, access restrictions and any belongings that need moving. Photographs can help explain a request; avoid sending private documents or personal details that are unrelated to the work.
Separate essential tasks from optional extras. A clear list lets you compare what each quotation covers, instead of assuming that every provider uses “spring cleaning” to mean the same thing.
Living and dining areas: surfaces, fabrics and access
List shelves, ledges, mirrors and floor areas individually. Point out delicate finishes and places blocked by heavy furniture. Ask how access will be assessed before expecting work behind or beneath those pieces.
- Which reachable surfaces are included?
- Which belongings should the household clear beforehand?
- Does a fabric item need a separate assessment or service?
A sofa, curtain and hard floor can require different care. Share the care label or manufacturer’s instructions where available; ask about the proposed method rather than requesting one machine treatment for every material.
Kitchen: name the interiors as well as the surfaces
Write “inside the oven” or “inside the empty cupboard” if that is what you need. A request for kitchen cleaning alone leaves room for different interpretations. Discuss preparation, suitable methods and what happens to food, dishes and stored items.
The current BUTLER Housekeeping deep-cleaning and spring-cleaning service page says appliance and cabinet interiors need assessment of material, access, preparation and time. Its standard exclusions include acid washing, steam cleaning and alkaline hood degreasing.
- Which appliance or cupboard interiors appear in the quotation?
- What should be emptied or prepared before arrival?
- Which treatment is proposed for each surface?
Bedrooms: agree linen changes and access to belongings
Make separate requests for the bed, floor, reachable surfaces and any fabric items. Decide where personal belongings will go so the cleaner can work around a clear, agreed area.
BUTLER’s published scope allows agreed bed-making and linen changes using a supplied clean set; laundry is separate. Ask about a mattress or curtain specifically, including the material and care instructions, rather than assuming it is covered by the room name.
- Which beds and surfaces are included?
- Where will the clean linen be placed?
- Is any fabric treatment assessed and quoted separately?
Bathrooms: describe what you can see
Point out the fittings, floor areas and visible marks you want assessed. A photograph and a precise location are more useful than a promise to make every surface look new.
Discuss cleaning and repair as separate needs. If a seal, finish or fitting appears damaged, ask who should assess it and whether repair belongs in a different booking. BUTLER’s service information notes that damaged finishes and permanent marks may remain after cleaning.
Balconies, windows and extra requests
Include each additional space on the room list, together with access and any building requirements. Do not assume a balcony, window exterior, elevated area or repair is included because it is part of the property.
The published BUTLER scope distinguishes agreed reachable work from requests that need further assessment. High-access work, specialist extraction and difficult residue can involve additional scope and cost. Get the accepted request in writing before relying on it.
Review the room list against the written quotation
Read the proposal beside your list. Resolve omissions and broad terms before confirming the booking.
- Work: rooms, surfaces, interiors and exclusions.
- Method: treatment proposed for the materials and condition described.
- Arrangements: staffing, estimated time, access, utilities and household preparation.
- Cost: billing basis, total quotation, applicable GST and any additional charges.
- Booking: date, payment, changes and a contact for questions.
Keep the accepted room list with the quotation. If you are splitting the work between your household and a provider, mark the tasks each will handle and any preparation needed first. Our two-list plan for a clean and tidy home can help separate decisions about belongings from surface cleaning.
For a BUTLER Housekeeping enquiry, share the property type, room priorities, relevant photographs and preferred dates through the current service page. Confirm availability, scope and the final quotation with the team.
